Books and Tea Book Club | Read-along and Read-a-thon in August
Hello my lovely book wyrms. I’m really excited about this months events and hope you feel excited about joining in. In Books and Tea book club, we have a Time Travel themed read-along, and a Graphic Novel Read-a-thon.
In this post I’ll be giving a run down of the events happening throughout August and if you want to know more about my Book Club check out this post!
Time Travel Read-along
First of all, the theme for August was TIME TRAVEL, mostly because I know this is a plot device that can be used in very different ways across various genres. There was definitely a few books that were nominated that I had no idea that they included time travelling aspects.
The full list that people voted from:
Invictus by Ryan Graudin | Timekeeper by Tara Sim | Passenger by Alexandra Bracken | Just One Damned Thing After Another by Jodi Taylor | Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier | Dark Matter by Blake Crouch | Opposite of Always by Justin A. Reynolds | The Seven and a Half Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton | TimeRiders by Alex Scarrow | The Girl from Everywhere by Heidi Heilig
There are some amazing names in this list but the winning book is: Passenger by Alexandra Bracken
Honestly, I was very excited about possibly getting to read Invictus. But I’m pretty interested in Passenger too, I’ve eyed it up a few times in the shops. Have you read it?
If you’d like to take part copies can be purchased from Amazon, Blackwells, & Wordery using my affiliate links at now extra cost for you.
Graphic Novel Read-a-thon
Alongside the read-along we’re also hosting a Graphic Novel* Read-a-thon. This is a very self-indulgent read-a-thon I do every year to help with reading slumps and encourage members to pick up something new.
If members need some inspiration to get reading I also wrote some challenges. If you want to take part, you don’t have to complete these challenges. You can create your own challenges to tailor the read-a-thon to your own needs.
-
- Finish a graphic novel that matches Lauren’s hair (purple, blue, or turquoise)
- Read your newest graphic novel
- Complete your oldest graphic novel
- Catch up with your favourite series
- Read a graphic novel that was recommended to you
- Try a new to your author or genre
- Read all your unread graphic novels
- Finish a graphic novel that matches Lauren’s hair (purple, blue, or turquoise)
For bloggers:
-
- Write up (mini) reviews for the books you finish, a recommendation post, or a wrap up post
For non-bloggers:
-
- Leave mini-reviews (or Amazon, Goodreads, or other book selling websites) for your favourite graphic novels to help them with exposure.
If you do either of the last two, or just shout about graphic novels, let me know and I’ll promote your content. There needs to be morelove for these beautiful works of art.
*Please note that whilst graphic novel is used, it is interchangable with any book that is illustration. This includes manga, manhwa, web comics, and comic books.
Upcoming in Books and Tea
For September I selected the theme “RETELLING” to be a lovely treat for my birthday month! I’m hoping for some great recommendations given thre’s beem a lot of releases to fit this choice lately.

Ooo I have a good few graphic novels and comics to read at the moment and I feel like after Godsgrave I’m probably going to need pulling out of a slump until Darkdawn so for sure count me in for the graphic novel read along!
Cora @ Tea Party Princess says
Ooh I love a retelling, I may join in with September’s book club. I’d recommend Beauty Sleep by Kathryn Evans, it’s a very clever Sleeping Beauty retelling in a sinister future.
