Spicy spooky romances for your Halloween reading list
So we may have been slightly MIA this spooky season, but today we’re bringing you something a little different from the Queen of smut, Imi! Read on for a list of some spicy spooky romances that she would recommend you pick up on Halloween (or whenever you’re feeling a little spooky).
Our Spooks and Tea photo challenge is still ongoing, you can find out more about it here!
Some people like their Halloween with spook and some like it with spice, but I’ve spent the last week finding as many Halloween-themed romances as I can on Kindle Unlimited and Scribd.
Now, it seems there’s an abundance of Christmas smut going around (sleeping with Santa is clearly on everyone’s Christmas list) but the Halloween erotica seems to be lacking. Maybe it’s because paranormal romances can be an all year round kind of deal? Or maybe I’m just looking in the wrong places… either way, here are some spooky stories I found set around All Hallows Eve, some spook, some spice and some sweet. What flavour is your pumpkin this year?
Halloween Boo by Sarah Spade
This novella is short enough to sink into a scorching bath and devour, which is exactly what I did. It’s a soft and sweet romance with some spicy scenes to keep you interested, but I only realised afterwards from someone else’s Goodreads review that this is actually a thinly veiled Hocus Pocus retelling. And you know what, I don’t hate it…
Dani thinks her flat is haunted, and on Halloween, her ghost manages to take corporeal form and scares the shit out of her, but he also makes her feel things she hasn’t before.
Spook: 🎃🎃🎃
Spice: 🌶🌶🌶
Halloween Boo is available on Kindle Unlimited. I think there’s currently a two month free deal for new KU members.
Sweet Magic by Donna Kauffman
This was not as Halloweeny as I thought it would be, but a sweet contemporary with fabulism elements and a Halloween parade planned and mentioned at times.
Bree’s family runs a bakery infused with some magic – a special cookie that brings would-be couples together with the strongest of bonds, but it only works once the baker themself has fallen in love. When chef Caleb visits to help save his uncle’s restaurant, the pair become inseparable. It was big on instalove and minimal spook, but a quick read.
Spook: 🎃
Spice: 🌶
Sweet Magic is available on Scribd as an audiobook.
Wicked Wishes by Dee Ellis
So this one is a part of a huge Halloween romance series from different authors – I don’t think any of them are related in the storyline and you can read them in any order.
This one, while steamy and with some perhaps questionable moments, had way more heart than I was expecting. Harley is a widower who, having lost his wife five years ago, never thought he would fall in love again. Hanna is younger and not what he was ever expecting in a next door neighbour but she is somehow perfect for him and his little girl, Hope.
Though without any fright-factor, this is a Halloween-festive smutty romance that I whipped through. I look forward to dabbling in the other 23 (!!!) books in the series.
Spook: 🎃🎃
Spice: 🌶🌶🌶
Wicked Wishes is available on Kindle Unlimited.
Shiver by Jules Kelley
This is technically a sequel but for what I wanted out of it, I didn’t necessarily feel like I missed out having not read the first book. Another quick read novelette, this is the sapphic spooky spice (all the alliteration) and lots of fun!
Maya and her best friend’s little sister, Grace, have a will they / won’t they relationship, and the sexual tension between them comes together on Halloween night after mishaps in a haunted maze.
Spook: 🎃🎃🎃
Spice: 🌶🌶🌶
Shiver is available on Kindle Unlimited.
An Evening at Crystal Lake by Rachel J Thompson
This novelette is just 17 pages and it’s proper erotica of the kind with very little story and a lot of sex. It was recommended by Katee Robert, so naturally, I had to give it a read. The premise is a horror-themed photoshoot (Friday 13th) which takes an… unexpected turn.
Spook: 🎃🎃🎃🎃
Spice: 🌶🌶🌶🌶
An Evening at Crystal Lake is available on Kindle Unlimited.
Headless by Aveda Vice
This novelette is another strong on smut, low on plot retelling of the Headless Horseman. MMF menage between Ichabod (Abe) Crane, Katrin Von smth and Bron Bones with no chapter breaks and no lead in, but some good ol’ Halloween monster-fucking. Another stellar rec from the queen of my smutty heart, Katee Robert.
Spook: 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃
Spice: 🌶🌶🌶🌶
Headless is available on Kindle Unlimited.
